This episode is a little different. In lieu of our normal episodes, we decided to talk about our goals for 2013, whether they be spiritual, personal, or gaming-related. We also asked our listeners to chime in with theirs, and got a couple of great responses.

Good ep. Surprised not to see any comments so far.
In keeping with the theme of spiritual goals, I wanted to ask if you guys had a preferred bible translation and why you liked it. I’ve been pretty isolated from my local faith community for…a year or so? Two? I lose track…Anyway, my prayer and scripture reading have really flat lined, and it’s affecting mein a lot of ways.
In unrelated yet still relevant news, I have recently acquired a Nexus and decided to ditch most of my dead tree books in favor of the space saving of ebooks. The bible I’ve had for years doesn’t seem to have a direct equivalent in eBook, and the other one I’m most interested in is dead tree only.
So it looks like I’m in the market for a new translation and wanted to crowd source it here.
Mumbles—
Regarding preferred translations: The Bible I received as a confirmation gift was a New Revised Standard Version translation, and that might be my preferred translation. I also like the English Standard Version and New King James Version — anything that keeps the poetry and high language of the older translations without being completely obtuse.
Regarding Android Bible apps: I’m personally a fan of lifechurch.tv‘s “YouVersion” Bible app for Android. It ties into YouVersion.com as well. There’s a large selection of translations and languages, but its best feature is probably the selection of reading plans. You can do anything from topical reading plans to reading through the entire Bible in six months, or eight months, or a year. There are others, though, and they’re almost all free, so I recommend trying a few and seeing what you like.
